Yonder Meadow is ideally situated in the beautiful Exe Valley – known as the Heart of Devon. This area is surrounded by idyllic villages – yet with the city of Exeter also within close reach. Exmouth beach with its famous golden sand is just 12 miles away, and the wilds of Dartmoor National Park just 10.

We can provide you with a guide to some popular walks in the local area during your stay. Alongside the Meadow, a leafy footpath takes you straight to the Devon lanes where you can explore the local vilage or visit the River Exe, perhaps for some wild swimming.

The Exe Valley Way

We are on the Exe Valley Way – a 50 mile river valley walk between source and sea along the beautiful river Exe. More information can be found on the Devon County Council website, with the route divided up into easy chunks.

The cathedral city of Exeter is well known for its superb shopping facilities, with all of the high street names that you would expect and a wide range of eclectic boutiques and independent shops. Celebrity chef Michael Caine has a base in Exeter for food lovers, and there is a huge selection of cafes and restaurants. Our favourites have tables around the Cathedral Green.

Killerton House and Knightshayes Court, owned by The National Trust, are in easy distance, as are Bickleigh Mill, Powderham Castle and Stuart Line Cruises  – a local company offering boat trips along the River Exe and around the Jurassic Coast.

Seasonal Events

There’s always something interesting going on in Devon – with seasonal events on offer all year round. From annual apple days and ploughing competitions, to village fetes, literary festivals and open artists’ studios. We’ll let you know what’s on via our Yonder Meadow Twitter feed –  or ask us when you book and we can tell you what’s happening when you stay.

Local Shops and Pubs

Nearby we have the award-winning Exe Valley Farm Shop, small shops in Stoke Canon and Silverton, and the lovely Berry Dairy Delicatessen in Thorverton. Supermarkets will also deliver to the Meadow if you wish to order groceries and cook your own meals during your stay.

There are plenty of excellent local pubs. We recommend the Lazy Toad at Brampford Speke –  one of our favourite haunts – along with the Thorverton Arms, the Lamb Inn, the Silverton Inn, the Ruffwell and the community-owned Stoke Canon Inn.

Exeter is a 10 minute drive away, and we are on the right side for easy parking and the new Guildhall cafe quarter with a wide range of restaurants.
